Transition from Growth to Degrowth

2024.Page1.Banner.jpg

The transition from growth to degrowth is not a matter of if, but when.
A concurrent transition from patriarchy to mutuality would be helpful.
But, given human nature, the transition will be mostly involuntary.
This edition is focused on what to expect and how to mitigate the pain.

Frequency and Intensity of Natural Disasters

Source: Is the number of natural disasters increasing?
Hannah Ritchie and Pablo Rosado, Our World in Data, 3 June 2024.
See the article for detailed analysis of the data and other related charts.
Good data and improved disaster prevention/recovery systems are urgently needed.
But climate change is just one symptom of the global social-ecological crisis.
The root causes are population growth, excessive consumption, and ecological overshoot.
There are tech bandages but it is a social problem, not amenable to tech fixes.
The only real solution is DEGROWTH of the modern techno-industrial civilization.
